Every year, UK selects 25 members of its incoming freshman class to receive the most prestigious academic honor, the Otis A. Singletary Scholarship. These students come to Lexington from across the country, and they are identified by their demonstrated potential to lead lives of intellect, integrity, and service in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and in the world.
As part of their coursework, this group of students learns first-hand about community engagement and event organization, culminating in the execution of a day-long leadership conference for their fellow Singletary Scholars, other members of the Honors College, and student leaders from dozens of campus student organizations. It is an immersive day filled with dynamic workshops, self-awareness assessments, and intimate panel conversations with community leaders. In February 2025, the conference welcomed nearly 200 students along with keynote speaker Jacqueline Coleman, the Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky. We are excited to see how we will continue to grow in 2026!
